Smashbox Brand Book

A brand book with an edge.

When we were asked by our brand leadership design a new brand book. We were given powerpoint strategy decks and examples of other ELC sister brands' spiral bound, Zerox printed brand books. My team and I couldn't accept the direction, as we know this project deserved much more attention an detail with the potential to be better.

The brand book conveys Smashbox’s strategy as well as its values and culture. I wanted it to look like it belongs in a skate shop rather than a board room. I led my senior designer in the book’s creative direction, and in addition to co-designing, art directing shoots and creating hand written elements for the project, I was the chief point person to cross-functional partners.

When all was said and done, we delivered a book that exceeded expectations and became a standard for other brands in the organization.

Just about every other brand book example we came across was cheaply spiral bound. We wanted the form factor to represent the brand as much as the content, so we landed on an exposed stiched spine.
